House Leader, Second Opposition Group critic for finance, sharing economy and for the Estrie region
François Bonnardel has entrepreneurship in his genes. After finishing CEGEP, he became interested in the automobile services sector. He climbed high in the industry, first in Mercier and then Granby, where he purchased a VitroPlus franchise in 1995. At the start of the 2000s, he acquired three other businesses. This path helped him better understand not only the challenges and obstacles that all entrepreneurs face when launching a business but also the economic reality of his region.
In 2006, after reading Mario Dumont’s book Have the courage of convictions, François Bonnardel became active in politics with the ADQ. He was elected as an MNA for the first time in the Shefford riding in 2007 and then re-elected in 2008, 2012 and 2014.
Today, he lives in Granby, where he is very involved with different charitable causes. For example, every year he takes part in the LEGDPL (A challenge for promoting healthy lifestyles) with his team from the National Assembly. He also sits on various committees with the Canadian Red Cross in Quebec, Haute-Yamaska Branch, and is the honorary president for various events such as the Walk for Memories of the Alzheimer Society of Granby and the Granby-Bromont “Ride of Silence” to encourage motorists and cyclists to share the road. Another of the many activities he takes part in is the Granby Challenge (Le Grand Défi de Granby) to promote healthy living.
