” We can count on the expertise of Dr. Boileau “

 11 January 2022

The Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, announced today that he has been informed of the decision of the National Director of Public Health, Dr. Horacio Arruda, to step down from his position. He took the opportunity to pay tribute to the tremendous work Dr. Arruda has done since the beginning of the pandemic.

Dr. Arruda will be replaced on an interim basis by Dr. Luc Boileau. A physician who graduated from the Université de Sherbrooke and holds a master’s degree in health administration from the Université de Montréal and a fellowship from the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, Mr. Boileau has been president and CEO of the Institut national d’excellence en santé et en services sociaux (INESSS) since 2015. Prior to his tenure at INESSS, he served as President and CEO of the Agence de la santé et des services sociaux de la Montérégie and President and CEO of the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ). In this capacity, he has been an expert advisor to the government since the very beginning of the pandemic.

“Dr. Arruda guided us, he protected us with great honesty and humanity. On behalf of the Quebec nation, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, Horacio. Now, the pandemic continues to rage everywhere, in Quebec and the countries of Europe, the United States and Canada. In the coming days and weeks, we must continue our efforts and work together. We will be able to count on the expertise of Dr. Boileau, who has agreed to take over to advise us. I thank him.”
